FACULTY RESEARCH Each faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is involved in conducting research. Funding sources include the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Labor, National Institute of Health (NIH) and numerous state agencies and private industries. See the complete list of funded contracts. Here is the list of the faculty and their main areas of research. In the spirit of intra and inter-disciplinary research, faculty always cross-over from one area to another within the department and across the college and the university. For example, one of our faculty members whose main interest is in in solid mechanics is conducting research in cross-over areas, such as, thermal modeling of large structures and development of integrated circuit packages. Another example is a faculty member whose main interest is in mechanical systems such as robotics, and is using robotics for purposes of rehabilitation of handicapped people for purposes of employment, driving and recreation.
