Bob Andrew named 2008 Engineer of the Year

 

ASME FWCS Engineer of the Year – Mr. Robert Andrew

 

Mr. Robert Andrew, an alumni of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been selected as the ASME Florida West Coast Section Engineer of the Year. He received the award at the Tampa Bay Engineering Week Banquet held February 20, 2009.

00000540.jpg (64806 bytes)Robert - Bob to most of us - is a native Floridian (born in Tampa), and has worked as an engineer in the Tampa Bay area for the past 19+ years.  He received BS in  Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering degrees from the University of South Florida. 

He is currently the Operations and Training Manager for Hudson Pump and Equipment, a division of Tencarva Machinery, in Lakeland Florida.  At Hudson Pump he has been responsible for a variety of different tasks and engineering assignments, starting as an Application Engineer, Shop and Service Manager, IT Manager, etc.   In addition to his work at Hudson Pump, he has developed several ASME approved Professional Education courses, including Pump Design & Application training courses which he has taught to ASME Sections and Businesses throughout the State of Florida and the Southeastern US. 

Prior to his work at Hudson Pump, Bob traveled the worlds as a Field & Startup engineer for Keyosk, a computerized vending machine manufacturer in the early days of the computer revolution. 

Bob also worked as a lab developer and instructor at USF while attending school there.

Bob has been active in developing and growing the Florida West Coast section of ASME for the past 19 years.  He served as Chair of the FWCS on two different occasions (4 years), and has served in almost all officer and board positions in the section during the time he has been a section member.  In addition to his work with the local ASME section, Bob had a key role in the recent reorganization of ASME  International, our worldwide Mechanical Engineering Society.  Currently he serves as Treasurer of the ASME Southeastern US District. 

While pursuing his undergraduate degrees, Bob was active in the USF ASME Student Section, serving as Chair and other leadership positions, and worked to develop the Section into one of the best in Southeastern US.  He helped organize and conduct three District and Regional ASME Student Conferences in Tampa, and also took an active part in many other USF student projects.  Bob helped develop the FWCS High School Design Contest and makes presentations to students at several Lakeland area schools that are designed to promote interest in careers in science and engineering.  

In addition to his activities with ASME, Bob has also been active in and served as an officer and board member of the local AIChE section for many years. 

The FWCS of ASME is proud to name Robert W. Andrew Jr. their Engineer of the Year.
