Autar Kaw receives Archie Higdon Mechanics Educator Award Autar K Kaw, a mechanical engineering professor from the University of South Florida, has won the prestigious 2002-03 Archie Higdon Distinguished Educator Award. This award is given annually by the American Society of Engineering Education for distinguished and outstanding contributions to engineering mechanics education. Past recipients include James Meriam, Egor Popov, Ferdinand Beer, Arthur Boresi, and Russell Johnston. Professor Kaw has profoundly influenced students through synergizing teaching practices, especially by complementing instruction through technology, and by integrating real world problems and research projects into the classroom (see http://numericalmethods.eng.usf.edu). He continually infuses new approaches in his teaching, such as addressing needs of students with different learning styles, and teaching holistically to encompass a full spectrum of educational objectives - from knowledge and comprehension to synthesis and evaluation. |
