Four-Year Graduation Rate Benchmark For Undergraduates is Archaic

November 30, 2007

On November 21, 2007, in an editorial opinion in the Tampa Tribune, USF was mentioned as giving lip-service to the 4-year benchmark of graduation rates.

In response to this editorial, Professor Autar Kaw of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of USF wrote a rebuttal commentary in Tampa Tribune on November 30, 2007.  The national rate for four-year graduation is 35% and the rate is declining steadily. At USF, the graduation rate is only 21%, but several circumstances exist for such a low rate.  Read the newspaper version (edited for brevity) or better yet the full unedited (has more details) version of the commentary.

The Provost and Senior Vice President of USF, Professor Renu Khator wrote an official response commentary in Tampa Tribune on the same issue and explained what USF is doing to improve their graduation rates - the 6-year graduation rates.
