The Mechanical Engineering Department at USF has approximately 275 undergraduates and 50 graduate students; 13 faculty members and 3 staff members. We graduate about 100 undergraduates and 15 graduate students a year. Our faculty are achieving national and international prominence for their research and teaching efforts. Faculty are working with corporations and government agencies across the nation on funded research in a variety of areas in mechanical engineering, such as advanced materials, nano-manufacturing, biomedical engineering, composites, vibrations, robotics, rehabilitation engineering, hydraulics, numerical heat-transfer, mechanical design and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The department receives over $2 million in external research funding. Our faculty members are highly committed to undergraduate and graduate teaching. The teaching evaluations of mechanical engineering faculty are consistently very high. Every year our faculty members are recipients of prestigious research and teaching awards. We formed a departmental industrial advisory board in April 1999. The advisory board meets once or twice a year to review our program and provide feedback on their expectations from our graduates. The department supports several student organizations including ASME, SAE, AIAA, and ASHRAE and student participation in these organizations is very high. Particularly noteworthy was the performance of our SAE students in the national Mini Baja competition. In year 2004, they scored maximum points for three events combined and were national champions. Amongst many other awards, ASME students won first place in the Ingersoll-Rand contest. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely Rajiv Dubey, PhD Professor and Chairperson
